The Hepatitis Panel – 3 Markers includes:
1. Hepatitis B – HBV (2 Markers):
Screens and assesses Hepatitis B infection status.
• HBsAg (Qualitative): Indicates whether you are currently infected with the virus.
• Anti-HBs (Quantitative): Particularly useful to determine if the Hepatitis B vaccine is effective, or if you have recovered from a past infection and developed immunity.
2. Hepatitis C – HCV (1 Marker):
Detects antibodies against the Hepatitis C virus (Anti-HCV). The presence of Anti-HCV indicates the body has been or is currently exposed to the virus. This is a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.
Routine screening for viral hepatitis is crucial, especially for high-risk individuals (history of shared needles, unsafe sex, or family members with hepatitis). Early detection allows for timely treatment, preventing dangerous complications like cirrhosis or liver cancer.
